Connecting brides with beautiful gowns in an eco-friendly way
By Jillian Chandler
Daniele Otto left Brazil to come to the U.S.—Ann Arbor, Michigan, to be exact—for a marketing job—an opportunity that presented itself while she was in graduate school. Fast forward years and a new city later, where Daniele was working for a startup in Seattle, she decided to pursue—and fulfill—a lifelong dream of working in the beauty industry. “I became a hairstylist … and never looked back,” Daniele reflects.
Daniele found herself putting her talents to use by styling hair for fashion shows and weddings. “Being a part of such an important and transformative day in someone’s life is so rewarding,” she smiles. “I always thought, ‘If one day I have my own business, I want a bridal boutique, but having a reuse/recycle concept.’”
For the past few years, Daniele found herself playing with the idea of opening her own bridal and beauty boutique, and it was the summer of 2023 that she decided to start realizing that dream. On November 12, 2023, Vida Bridal & Beauty had its official opening day in Tacoma.
“The last few months have been such an eye-opener in terms of who I am, where I want to be and what I want to do for my family,” says Daniele. “I was on a very long flight back from visiting my family in Brazil and thought, ‘Why not now?’ I just started drafting my business plan right then and there; the ideas were just pouring in. I took it as a sign and got the ball rolling as soon as I arrived home. ‘Vida’ means ‘life’ in Portuguese, and I think it embodies everything I envisioned for the store and what it represents. I wish I had a store like Vida when I got married many years ago.”
Vida Bridal & Beauty offers 1,100 square feet and more than 60 carefully selected and curated dresses. “Our idea is to offer a personalized and relaxing experience, with beautiful dressing rooms, beverage service and customized styling. Brides should feel pampered and special while having a great time shopping for their wedding dress with friends and family,” Daniele explains.
The intimate atmosphere offers options while not overwhelming her clients. Brides can expect to be treated to a personalized boutique experience “without the frills,” and, in the end, feel good about supporting the local community and the environment.
She spends as much time as she can researching and looking for gowns that will suit different wedding venues, locations and perspectives—from classic Vera Wang and sophisticated Carolina Herrera to dreamy Hayley Paige, romantic Monique Lhuillier and statement Pronovias. “I also like to research up-and-coming designers such as Valery Zelenyuk from South Africa and Rachel Gilbert from Australia,” she adds.
“I believe in choices, and I am so happy our store is another option for brides looking for a dream gown. Hopefully they can feel all the care and love we put into every detail and identify with what we are trying to achieve in terms of community impact and fashion selection.”
She goes on to say that Vida Bridal & Beauty is not just in the business of selling dresses; Daniele aspires to connect brides with a wonderful local network of small businesses (which are mostly women owned and operated): hairstylists, makeup artists, photographers, flower farms and shops, wedding venues, and more. “They can give back by supporting their community and being environmentally friendly on their big day.”
Vidal Bridal & Beauty is open seven days a week, by appointment only. Daniele invites you to visit VidaBridal.com to begin the journey of finding that perfect dress for your special day.
“I believe in the ‘bridal moment’—when you put on that perfect dress, and the emotions just start pouring in; the idea of starting a new life, feeling like your best self, knowing you cannot wait to walk down that aisle,” she notes. “Being there and sharing that special day with someone is truly special.”
